Course Description

The CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry is a trade qualification designed for carpenters working in both residential and commercial construction environments.
It covers the skills and knowledge required to set out, manufacture, construct, assemble, install, and repair products made using timber and non-timber materials.

Entry Requirements

International students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old and have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Participate in a course entry interview to assess suitability and individual learning needs
  • Have an IELTS score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old)
  • Alternatively, English proficiency can be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Completion of 5 years of education in an English-speaking country
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

To successfully undertake the CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry, students should be able to:

Unit of Competency

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. Upon completion, students are expected to learn:

  •  how to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. 
  • how to identify and orally report common construction hazards, understand basic risk control measures, and identify procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. 
  • how to select and fit common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This unit specifies the outcomes required to carry out work health and safety (WHS) requirements through safe work practices in all on- or off-site construction workplaces. Upon completion, students are expected to learn:

  • how to work in a safe manner through awareness of risks and work requirements, and the planning and performance of safe work practices with concern for personal safety of others.
  • how to identify of hazardous materials, including asbestos, and compliance with legislated work safety practices.

  • placement of safety barriers
  • the application of knowledge to handle, erect and dismantle a range of restricted height scaffolding systems.
