Course Description
The CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) qualification reflects the role of skilled building professionals who apply advanced knowledge of structural principles, risk management, financial management, estimating, and contract administration. Graduates are equipped to select and manage contractors, oversee project quality and progress, and administer building and construction projects across residential and commercial sectors.
Scope of Work:
• Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings, up to a maximum of three storeys.
• Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type B and C construction.

1.5 Years (78 Weeks)

Typical learners may be aged between 18–35 years, living in Australia for the first time, and may speak English as a second language. Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) options are also available.
Student Entry Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have successfully completed Year 12 (or equivalent)
- Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs
Recommended Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
- Ability to apply numeracy skills for estimating, measuring, and costing
- Ability to use spoken and written English effectively for workplace communication
International Student Admission Entry Requirements:
- IELTS score of 6.0 (no band lower than 6.0) or equivalent
- OR completion of at least 5 years of study in an English-speaking country
- OR completion of at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO
- OR successful completion of an English Placement Test
Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL are accepted. Students must provide certified proof of their English proficiency or evidence of having passed an appropriate English Language Test within the last two years.
Technology Literacy Requirements
To successfully undertake the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), students should have:
- Ability to produce and present word-processed documents and reports
- Ability to research, interpret, evaluate, and present information from various sources
- Ability to analyse and present numerical or statistical information
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)
All students will be required to undertake an LLN test to identify whether additional learning support is required and to ensure their LLN level aligns with course requirements. Given the intended learner group, students are expected to possess high-level LLN capabilities suitable for vocational study.

Student Support Services Department
Hallmark Institute has a dedicated Student Support Services Department that provides administrative assistance to enrolled students (e.g. how to log into the online learning system and other support).
Student Welfare
If a student experiences personal difficulties, they will be referred to the Principal who will arrange appropriate support. If the student’s needs exceed the Institute’s capacity, they will be referred to an appropriate qualified counsellor or external support service.
